Eyegaze Apps
The products seen in this video are the first steps towards a comprehensive curriculum to teach purposeful eye gaze interaction leading to eye gaze controlled communication and computing. We have road maps and progressions to teach keyboards and switch skills but this will be important for us to teach learners what they need to access an eye gaze controlled device. Amazing.
The computers seen here are the Tobii PC Eye, the software is by Sensory Guru and the interactive floor mat is a Magic Carpet.
This is absolutely amazing! I teach preschool (sp.ed.) and would LOVE to have access to even a fraction of these things for the children!
ReplyDeleteThe eye gaze systems are still about $5000, aren't they? The tracking hardware is what I'm talking about.
ReplyDeleteAn ex-stuent that I still keep in contact with has severe CP and low vision (2" letters at 14" depth, with high contrast) I should be thinking of blind tools, but she has no speech, and predictable muscle movement except her left leg and her eyes.
I don't think there is anything in this world to help her that would be self directed. If you disagree, please let me know.
This piece of equipment (Tobii PCEye) might be worth a try. It works with monitors up to 21 inches, so there is a chance that everything can be displayed big enough. It works well with a number of good communication software titles, specifically Tobii Communicator and the related vocabularies. Having no speech means that there is a chance that she gets funding.
ReplyDeleteCOMMERCIAL INTEREST DECLARED: I work for Tobii.

ReplyDeleteThanks...I'll bookmark this and study it more.
I'm sure it might be cost prohibitive if she was unable to get funding.
Thanks for answering.
get a speech therapist to call in an Aug. evaluation for her,.... they will make the final decision on what device would be perfect for her and if it ends up being Tobii, like my 5 year old, then they will also dial it to her settings and you WILL get a copy of her evaluation. They will put in an order for it and contact your DDD assuming she does have a DDD support coordinator (your local Division of Developmental Disabilities). My son has DDD and is also Long term care so DDD and Long term care pays for what he NEEDS. Communication is a NEED :-D good luck I hoped I gave you some leads or at least some extra information. Good luck
DeleteAre any of these eye gaze programs ones you can download on your Ipad as an app or are we not there yet?
