  1. The iPad now makes the list with the right software, such as Proloquo2togo.

  2. The iPad is not a dynamic display device, with or without Proloquo2Go. The iPad is an iPad, it can be used for AAC with dynamic display. It is an excellent choice for many alternative communicators, but that doesn't make it a specialized AAC device. Proloquo2Go is on the list as an application/software. I worry that by telling people an iPad is an AAC device we are misrepresenting AAC devices. The iPad is not specialized, it does not meet the range of a wide range of alternative communicators, you can't send it in for repairs to a company that understands that it is someone's voice, it does not include all of the many features of a highly specialized device and it is still not funded as a speech device by most insurances. I worry that the iPad is turning into a "flavor of the month" in AAC and really many areas of special education and AT. I am not knocking the iPad or any app, I just want to remind everyone that a full AAC or AT eval needs to be done to determine the best device or combination of hardware/software for individuals.
