Here are some ideas for an integrated thematic unit on the Wizard of Oz! (The movie Wizard of Oz, not the book which has a more complex plot.) Alicia Odom of SMD Teacher will kind enough to share with me her resources from when she did a Wizard of Oz Unit. Here is a week-by-week outline of what we will be doing. Monica from Eliminating the Box did a similar unit and shared resources as well. Some of the resources we will be using are the Wizard of Oz Free Printable Pack, an old issue of News-2-You and Pete Well's Sensory Story.*
*As you can see below we will be basing much of the unit on Pete Well's Wizard of Oz Sensory Story, which sadly is no longer online; so I will link to a copy of each section in my Google Cloud for reference. This sounds like so much fun,Kate! I'm sure this will be a summer your kids remember with fondness every time they see the Wizard of Oz.
ReplyDeleteIt is so great of you to post links to the activities so families can repeat some of the best-loved ones at home.
I'm envious of the creative opportunity your district provides. We are given a total of 1.5 hours of therapy time per week (6 wks) as our district's ESY...wow (hear the flat tone in my voice???). I'm happy you shared your model so we can hold it up an an example of what good learning can happen during the summer.
thank you so much for sharing all of this great Unit study! I love to find inspiration like this to add into our days together.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the inspiration. I showed Parts 1 and 2 at school today, I also teach at an ESY school teaching multiple needs students. We also made a art collage depicting the Tornado and Dorothy's journey to OZ. I also did the Tornado in a bottle.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Thank you so much for sharing this theme for ESY! I am currently working on our curriculum for our summer program and this will be perfect to make ESY special and fun for all of us! I especially love the cooking ideas and the whole Wizard of Oz theme can be adapted and modified by our whole K-6 program, which runs the scope of severely handicapped to children with Asperger's. Can't wait to tell the rest of the team.
